School lunches make up 30% of a child's daily nutrition intake. A few years ago, Foley Schools launched a new lunch program due to the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act. The guidelines provided us with more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and low fat dairy products. We stress the importance of families to monitor the meal accounts and maintain a positive balance as it is important to eat healthy balanced meals for student academic success.

Foley Schools strives to provide quality meals at a reasonable cost to all students. In order to maintain consistency throughout the district, the following procedures will be followed throughout the district at each grade level:
  • The parent/guardian will be notified electronically when the household account reaches $15.00.
  • The parent/guardian will be notified again when the household lunch account is at $10.00.
  • When the account is at $5, the food service department will contact the family directly.
  • When the balance is zero, the students will be offered a milk and grain for breakfast and a sandwich and milk for lunch. If the student has cash, they may purchase a meal. We no longer allow lunch accounts to have a negative balance.
  • Ala Carte items may only be purchased with accounts with positive balances.
  • Building principals will assist the Food Service Director as needed.

Accommodating Children with Special Dietary Needs
Do your children have an allergy or need a special diet? Are they lactose intolerant? Please stop by the Child Nutrition Services Office located at the Intermediate School and pick up a Special Diet Statement or call 320- 968-8411 and one will be mailed to you. It must be filled out by the parent and a physician according to state requirements.

With increasing milk, peanut and egg allergies and other medical concerns like diabetes and celiac, we need to be aware of special dietary needs for the safety of your child.

For students who are experiencing a short term medical concern like oral surgery, modified diets are available.

We are here to help provide a healthy and safe meal for all students.

We continue to strive to make our cafeterias a safe place for your child to eat.

Free and Reduced Lunch Program
Foley Public Schools takes part in the School Nutrition Program which takes applications for free and reduced-price meals. Reduced-price breakfasts are served at no charge. Check out the complete information by visiting our Student Meal Application and Eligibility Information webpage. In joint custody situations, where a child (or children) are moving from each parent's house during the school week, both parents must be aware of the children's eligibility status. However, they do not need to see the meal benefit application, nor see or know the information it contains.

Foley Public Schools will be promoting healthier eating by using the USDA new guidelines, including the "My Plate" visual reminder. Elementary students will be encouraged to choose three "colors" or food groups to complete their meal choices each day. Besides their main entree and their daily milk, students will be encouraged to make half their plate fruits and vegetables. For complete information on this program check the USDA "My Plate" website.
